Sean, It is great that you highlighted the idea that research is a creative process. Good research requires creativity in identifying relationships and looking beyond one's findings.
These notecard confessions are a efficient way to share ideas between students. It provides a way to not only demonstrate what a student has gleaned from an assignment, but allows them to be a teacher as well.
I like the fact that you pointed out the critical thinking skills required. You could indeed make sure during assessment that students are putting 2 + 2 together to go beyond just quoting. I think by adding the emotional and creative element the student will take the assignment to the next level.
I agree with both comments, I also think that using note cards help students to develop a way of having a visual tool that can help build studying skills.
When I teach Spanish I use note cards to help students with the pronunciation and writing of the words. I make them write the word in English on one side then in Spanish on the other side we then add a picture together with the Spanish word for memory. Giving the student creativity, understanding together with identity.
I enjoyed the pace of your music paired with your presentation. It was fun and interesting. I think linking us to how creative a process research can be is a crucial point and makes your video an excellent learning tool and reminder of the benefits of constructing these short clips. Well done!
I like how you spoke of research as a creative process, and the fact that you help students to read between the lines and think critically about what they are reading. I've always thought that a little dose of skepticism is always healthy, and this should be no different for students.
Nice Band background soundtract! It was like you having your own little "pep band" supporting your confession. Great choice on reading quotes to explain the content of the chapter as well as the importance of helping students unlock or utilize their creative potential.
I enjoyed your video! I think showing your face is brave; not many of us did. It makes the content of the video much more personal. This form of media is a great way to assess student's ability to use critical thinking by allowing them to teach forward what they have learned from class. A lot can be learned about a student simply by observing how he or she records the video (showing his or her face, the tempo of music chosen, etc).

ReplyDeleteI am glad I am not the only one to use an upbeat tune for their video.
ReplyDeleteI think its very important for students to think critically and not have things given to them cut and dry.
