PSA Video!

To reach my audience I created a video using my sister, who is not a high school student at all, but looks younger, to try to connect to the students. If the message comes from a younger person, then I hope that it will be more well received more students will watch the commercial. The music gives it sort of an older feel, but has classical qualities that set the mood with a political type setting. The persuasive techniques I used were things like: presenting facts that will get the students thinking, only stating the bad things that have been caused and the restrictions to the students by these laws, and giving the students the knowledge that they can reverse their current state in the school. The key part of this PSA, I think, is that it provokes the students and gets in their face to do something.

  1. My husband and I enjoyed watching your video. Your sister is hilarious and the points she read for your PSA were interesting plus powerful. It definitely made your points stand out.
I also think using a "young" person would appeal to the student's point-of-view.

  2. I love vintage PSA’s (post WW2 era) so the music and static in it had hooked immediately. I liked that one of the last things you heard in the video were children singing, “When you’re backs against the wall.” I felt that summed it up really well!

You did a great job in your attempt to reach teenagers. Not only by using someone younger so they don’t feel talked down to, but the language and mannerisms is comparable to a lot of the vlogs created by teens and young adults that are popular right now. You provided a lot of intense facts which is great, but it’s also great that you conveyed them in an approachable way.

    Great job!

  3. Sean, this is a great way to bring awareness and try to ignite the spark needed for students to take action. I liked the over dramatic "Fact" and the use of "West by God Virginia" that harkens the WV patriotism nerve to action. I agree with Tiffany the children singing "your backs against the wall" also calls to action with a sense of urgency. Good Job!

  4. Bahaha, big shout out to your sister for doing this for you. I like the entire image you were going with by having someone that appears younger presenting the message. I also love that she is stroking the cat throughout the video.

Overall, I think it is great. You introduced it well, she attempted to keep viewer attention with the whole "FACT" thing, and you presented the problem, the cause, and a solution, which is exactly what a good PSA should be able to do in a short period of time. I also like that you ended it by basically saying that it is the viewers responsibility to take action. Nicely done, sir!
