I got a real kick out of this one because I honestly can't remember the answer to a lot of things without the help of Google. This is not to say that I don't know much, but things that I do not use on a regular basis get pushed further back in my mind and Google is a good way to refresh my memory on different subjects. In this day and age it is all about the application of information anyway. Not just remembering random facts, but actually knowing how to apply those facts. This applies to teaching and learning in the 21st century because students don't necessarily need to remember every single little detail about every subject. They can focus on concepts and use technology to apply those concepts to different areas and be more creative in their thinking.

Sean,
ReplyDeleteI like your choice of cartoons and because I feel like I know you (a little bit from past classes) It screams your viewpoint. I find my self all the time in class when a question arises that needs and answer and I don't know the answer or want a more accurate representation of the information I'll simply say, "someone Google that" (I support the proper use use of smartphones as a tool) and seconds later we have several different answers to choose from. It can also lead to a teachable moment of how to ask a good question... or how varied the answer may be depending on the search request made. looking forward to another semester with you!!!
Hi Sean,
ReplyDeleteEven though we've had a few classes online together, I didn't realize you hailed from Nashville (or maybe just didn't remember). That in itself is an example, I think, of how we can access things which maybe didn't stick. Being able to actually find the information needed for application is definitely an important skill and one that I work on teaching daily. Looking forward to learning with you again this semester!
