Sean, I really liked your video. Also, the music was Majora's Mask, correct? Your video serves as an interesting self examination of pursuing one's interests, as well as the social implications one sometimes faces as a result of that. I was kind of in the "nerd" group while in school, but I also crossed into several other social circles as well. I've always wondered if my social mobility was possible because I went to a small school, but I was never really content to have one label, so I would transition day-to-day, sometimes being the football captain, sometimes being the outdoor/ffa kid, sometimes being the video game nerd. I suppose it all depends on how and where you grow up, sometimes? I think we both viewed a video about teen gaming earlier this fall, and I would like to go back to the stereotypes battled in that video. People view gamers as anti-social at times, or, as you put it, "shut-ins," while it is often just a different type of social and entertainment experience. I want to point out that there are some view desktop recording tools out there, just in case you create a video in the future where you are trying to show some items located on your computer...it makes the visuals a little easier for the viewer. I like that you added shots of yourself to the video, as I think it added to the authenticity. Overall, great job! Game on!
The music is Hyrule Fields from ocarina of time and at the end switches to wind waker. It definitely does depend on school size think because in smaller schools you don't have the population to start segregating as much as larger populations. I probably should have just used fraps to record my desktop then edit myself in after, but I guess I wasn't thinking about it lol.
Sean, I like that you chose a specific aspect of your life to discuss in your story. This is a different experience from a lot of the stories, that tend to focus on family or career choices. I don't think you need to change anything about this, and you do a great job of explaining the topic. I also like that you use webcam shots of yourself in addition to photos with voice over. Thank you for sharing your story!
Sean,
ReplyDeleteI like how you were able to take something you enjoy & make social connections based on that, your story was interesting.
